Music and Traditions
Starting this blog I realized I can't remember any music from major events like my best friend's wedding or my grandpa or grandma's funerals. But I do remember music from being on sports teams!
Last January, it was the beginning of lacrosse season. Pre-season was BRUTAL with 3 practices a day and 1 class that lasted 3 hours everyday with also it being absolutely freezing. My teammates and I were exhausted to say the least. Waking up at 5:30 for practice was getting harder and harder to get up and have a good attitude/ mindset at these early practices. We had no idea what to do to get back into a good headspace before practice. We had music blasting everyday but it didn't really mean anything it was just to keep us awake. One day one of my teammates made a joke about quitting and I'm not sure how it happened but we connected the song "Hit the Quan" to wanting to quit. So if you one of us said "I'm going to hit the quan" that meant we were going through it and wanted to quit right then and there. We started playing this song EVERYDAY and it actually picked our spirits up. We all knew preseason was the roughest thing we were ever going to do endure while playing lacrosse so in a sense the song made us closer. We would all actually do the dance to while the song played and it was great and it made everyone feel a little lighter when getting into practice.

Hi Abi! Your blog made me giggle. Especially the part about Hit The Quan. I miss being on a team and having songs that acted as inside jokes to us. Also love Selena Gomez, she will forever be iconic.
ReplyDeleteHi Abi!!! I love that we both talked about getting hype and being in a team environment, because it is definitely one of the best feelings ever before a game and probably some of the most memorable especially when it comes to music. I loved the story about Zoey and Aly!!
ReplyDeleteHi Abi! I really love Come And Get It by Selena Gomez! I saw her at the mall og Georgia one day when I was little and became absolutely obsessed with her after Wizards Of Waverly Place! I love how many personal connections you make with your music and how you relate them back to your sport. I too have "pre meet" songs!
ReplyDeleteHi abi!! I loved your blog and can also relate to have songs that became tradition because of your sport! I enjoyed all three of your songs and love that they hold special memories for you
